Inspire Aviation – Night VFR Rating
The Night VFR rating is a great opportunity to introduce yourself to exciting new world of night flight. With the Night VFR Rating, your restriction to flight between first light and last light is lifted, adding greater flexibility to your travel plans. The instrument and navigation skills introduced during this course will serve you well to improve your ability to cope with VFR situations, and are a great introduction for a later Instrument Rating. NVFR Candidates will undergo a course of training to satisfy the requirements of CASR Subpart 61.O for the grant of a NVFR Rating and SEA Night Endorsement. This course can be completed full time or part time, with first flight of the syllabus conducted in daylight, and all following flights in the early evening from approximately 5-10pm depending on season.
Course Structure:
Prior to commencement of the flight component of the course, the following four theory briefings will be completed, covering NVFR operations:
1) NVFR Human Factors 2) NVFR Legislation 3) NVFR Circuits 4) NVFR Navigation
Upon completion of the required theory, and an in-house theory assessment on the associated aeronautical knowledge components, the candidate will advance to the flying syllabus, as follows below. This course assumes the candidate holds a PPL and therefore has completed 2.0 hours of BIF prior to commencement of the course.
Flight Number | Description | Day Flight Time | Night Flight Time | Instrument Time | Dual Flight Time | Solo Flight Time |
NVFR1 | BIF and Navaids | 1.0 | 0.8 | 1.0
NVFR2 | Night Circuits | 0.2 | 1.0 | 0.2 | 1.2
NVFR3 | Night Circuits | 1.0 | 1.0
NVFR4 | Solo Night Circuits | 1.0 | 1.0
NVFR 5 | Night Nav 1 | 0.2 | 3.0 | 0.2 | 3.2
NVFR6 | Night Nav 2 | 0.2 | 3.0 | 0.2 | 3.2
NVFR7 | Night Nav 3 – Pre Test | 0.2 | 3.0 | 0.3 | 3.2
Totals | 1.8 | 12.0 | 1.7 | 12.8 | 1.0 |
After completing the above flying syllabus, the HoO will recommend the candidate to be flight tested for the NVFR Rating with SEA Night Endorsement. The flight test is typically 2.5-3.0 hours flight time.
